The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for United

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
