The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Critical Role Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated series by Critical Role, revealed an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
All in all, the intro appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was missing in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great nostalgic option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's opening fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and the video site.
