Reigning Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, finishing 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka finished the season with a sixty-three to twelve win-loss record, and picked up a historic £11m in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Other WTA Award Honorees
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking 13-month break after the arrival of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
