Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and were in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of Rice by name in their statement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Instagram

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.

Police Reports Currently Not on File

No official complaints were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have occurred.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
