Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder stated.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period like this with performances so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
